We now have animated patients in our hospital! And you can even see the backs of their heads π Also, in this edition: code explained by lead programmer Rupert and how the 3 & 4 player levels are shaping up.
Head banging the game away
Joe was working on integrating animations for our patients into the game and this happened... Ed Bangers everywhere! This character originally came from a really fun submission by Damon Wakes for a Discord event we ran back in June. Our 2D artist Joshβs awesome art and animations have really brought him to life π€
Code explainer - what does βin the Modelβ mean? π€
This week our lead programmer and co-founder Rupert informed us that: βApplying remedies works in the Model with data coming from the level file successfully.β
But what does he mean by "in the Model"? π€¨
He explains: βLike lots of UI code, our game code is split into "Model" and "View". The Model is a bit like a draughts board with stacks of pieces on each tile βοΈ, only allowed to be on one tile or another. That's what the level files describe that Shaz (lead designer and other co-founder) creates and what the C# and especially Lua code operate upon.
For players to actually play the game, we visualise The Model as The View. This is where we show patients, doctors, sofas and medicine. Each of those ties back to something in The Model.β
To translate his original statement; a remedy can now successfully be picked-up β, thrown to another doctor π€Ύ, applied to a patient in a bed π and that cures the patient resulting in both remedy and patient leaving 'the board' π
What it looks like? Who knows! Weβll have to wait and see.
3 & 4-player level update
The 2-player levels for the demo are pretty much done π₯³
Shaz has now started on the 3 and 4-player levels. Here's a gif of one of the early levels. Itβs nice to see all four characters bouncing, breathing and rocking along in their individual idle animations π
